What is an eSIM card

eSIM is a chip embedded in the device that replaces the plastic SIM card. Devices that support this technology are not necessary to insert a physical SIM card into the slot. The chip is programming eSIM profile that containing all the necessary data to connect to mobile communication.

How to activate

  1. Make sure that your device is connected to the Internet (Wi-Fi or data transfer)
  2. Go to the Settings section.
  3. Select “Cellular” or “Mobile Data”.
  4. Select “Add cellular tariff”.
  5. Scan the QR code with your mobile device.
  6. Confirm your choice of cellular operator by clicking “Add cellular tariff”.

An eSIM is a digital virtual SIM card that is loaded into your device and allows you to use mobile communications without a physical SIM card. The eSIM card has the same capabilities as its plastic counterpart: it can be blocked if the phone is lost, and can also be reinstalled on a new device.

A1 company guarantees the operation of eSIM with all device models that implement this opportunity and that are officially presented in Belarus.
Mobile phones with eSIM are an alternative to the previously common models with dual SIM cards. You can have multiple SIM card profiles and switch between them as needed. The number of profiles depend on the device model. For example, personal and work numbers can be managed from one device, and the number of such numbers can be up to 5.
Apple devices may display the following notification: “Cellular plan is not certified”. Click OK to continue. After updating the device, the message will not appear.

eSIM is an independent module and does not depend on the presence of other SIM cards in the smartphone. A mobile device can support both a physical SIM card and an eSIM card at the same time. If you wish, you can replace your current SIM card with an eSIM. More information here.

Prepare your QR-code for reading (on paper or on the screen in your Personal Account). Make sure that your old smartphone has an Internet connection (WI-FI or data) and completely remove the eSIM profile on it. Then go through the eSIM activation process on your new device by scanning the previously prepared QR- code. More details in the “How to activate” section.

 

Attention! For customers who were issued an eSIM before September 13, 2022, the owner of the number must contact the A1 store to replace the old eSIM with a new eSIM or physical SIM.

In this case, you need to scan your QR code. The eSIM profile will be installed automatically. First make sure that the device is connected to the Internet (WI-FI or data transfer).
Check if you have an Internet connection (WI-FI or data transfer) and if the latest version of the operating system is installed on your device.
Currently, the use of eSIM is only possible in smartwatches with a separate subscriber number. In smart watches, which require the use of one subscriber number simultaneously in a smart watch and a smartphone, eSIM from A1 is not available.

If you lose the QR code on paper, you can view it in your profile in your Personal Account (including when replacing a SIM in the My A1 application or going to A1 store with an identification document.

A QR-code cannot work on multiple devices at the same time.
