A1 will put in solar panels at Green Schools across Belarus

Solar Energy for Green Schools, an ecologic project by A1 in partnership with Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus, Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus and UN Development Program starts in Belarus. Within the scope of the contest there will be 7 Green Schools selected, one in every oblast and one in Minsk to get solar panels converting solar energy into electric installed, including special illuminating and accumulating equipment for visual demonstration of the solar activity to the students.

 

“For A1 ecology and environmental protection is key strategic area of corporate social responsibility. We have made up our mind to support National Educational project of Ministry of Nature and Ministry of Education named Green Schools offering our technical expertise and taking the lead on realization of all aspects related to implementation and operation of solar equipment. A special value of this project that we see is associated with combination of ecology and education and focus on possibility of using the energy from natural renewable sources in our daily life”, - noted Nikolai Yushkevich, First Deputy General Director.

 

One of the key purposes of the project is to practically demonstrate the benefits of renewable sources of energy (in this context solar energy) to every student. It is planned that realization of the project Solar Energy for Green Schools will enhance availability of ecologic information to the students will become a driving force in sorting out local ecologic issues. “Today on the World Environment Day we initiate this pilot project for the students to be able to practically discover advantages of solar energy, facilitate formation of careful attitude towards energy consumption, create a saturated chapter in the operation of a new educational model Green Schools”, - Tatiana Kononchyk, head of chief department of ecologic environmental policy, international cooperation and science of the Ministry of Nature expressed her confidence.

Solar energy for Green Schools is not the first A1 initiative in the area of renewable energy that focuses on efficiency of implementation of the said solutions. Since 2016 in Bragin rayon of Gomel oblast there is a solar park with 85 thousand solar panels installed at company costs.

 

Provision for realization of the contest Solar Energy for Green Schools

 

Green Schools is an educational project aimed to foster a values-based attitude towards environment among the students, enhancement of ecologic focus in educational process, youth’s awareness of environmental protection and rational usage of natural resources, parenting. Educational project Green Schools gained development under support and within the framework of the project Public Engagement in Ecologic Monitoring and improvement of the management in environmental protection on the local level that is being realized by UN Development Program and financed by European Union. The agent executing the project countrywide is Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection. Provision for realization of the project Green Schools has been signed off by representatives of Ministry of Education and Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus. In this way, a new model of ecologic education has been deployed in Belarus. Any school, school forestry unit, further education establishments and ecologic centres for children and youth in Belarus can become a member of ecology movement. Today over 50 institutions in our country are certified as a Green School.
