Reach out to the Belarusian wildlife! Local birds have got phone numbers

Belarus is the first country around the world where birds have got personal telephone numbers. Social organization Protection of the National Birds PNB and A1 offer a literal connection to the wildlife. In order to listen to the birds singing, you just need to dial a special number.

The first own telephone numbers were granted to a ring-dove, redbreast, spotted redshank, nightingale, bullfinch, blackbird, spink, blue tit, long-tailed wren and tawny owl. They were selected for a reason. These are the most widespread and recognized birds in Belarus that one can see at parks and sometimes even from own windows. Many people could hear these voices before but not everyone could easily recognize who they belong to. “There are 332 birds species in Belarus, 70 thereof are listed in the national Red Book. The birds need aid, attention and protection. We are confident that this service will serve as a reminder of the precious value of the wildlife.

Moreover, such calls will be of interest for biology classes at school. In order to demonstrate the birds singing a teacher can just give them a call”, – says Natalia Sorokovik, one of PNB experts.

Calls to all 10 numbers are free of charge for A1 subscribers except for those roaming. It makes sense to note that before you hear the voice of a bird over the phone you will be greeted by a bird’s secretary. These roles were performed by actors of Kupala Theatre Roman Podolyako and Kristina Drobish.

“Reach out to the Wildlife is another step for A1 in the area of environmental protection. We consider it highly important to raise ecologic awareness and take care of the environment. And calls to the birds deliver these message to Belarusians of any age in an interesting and exciting format. That is why we were happy to engage into the project initiated by Protection of the National Birds”, – commented Nikolai Bredelev, head of A1 PR.

Reach out to the Wildlife was created based on a creathon’s initiative. It unites creators, designers, managers and strategists in order to help social initiatives to make a public statement. Social organization Protection of the National Birds became a customer of the fourth creathon where the team of Oleg Davidchik proposed to teach Belarusians how to distinguish birds by voices.
