Recommendations for A1 subscribers planning a trip to the Russian Federation
On 6 October 2025, Russian authorities introduced regulatory restrictions affecting the provision of telecommunication services in the country. In this regard, A1 shares recommendations for its subscribers who are planning a trip to Russia or are already in the country.
Current information:
- all roaming subscribers using Russian mobile networks are subject to a mandatory 24-hour block on data and SMS services;
- the block takes effect automatically upon first registration on Russian mobile networks and remains in place for 24 hours or longer;
- once the block is removed, if the SIM card remains inactive for 3 days, the 24-hour block may be re-applied.
- The restrictions do not affect voice services (fixed-line calls), which will be completely available regardless of data and SMS service blocking.
Recommendations for subscribers traveling to Russia:
- Manually choose a local operator: if your SIM card connects to a different Russian operator within 24 hours of the first registration, the 24-hour block may be reapplied.
- Once the data and SMS block is removed, maintain network activity through calls, SMS, or mobile internet usage.
- Plan alternative ways to stay in touch in advance: check for public Wi-Fi networks at your locations (that don't require SMS or call verification), and write down important phone numbers and addresses (embassies, emergency services, family and friends, taxi services).
- Plan your city routes ahead of time, and download offline maps and public transport guides.
- Activate roaming services in advance: make sure international roaming is enabled before your trip.
- Stay informed: regularly check A1's website for updates on any restrictions and their duration.
We are currently negotiating with Russian operators to minimize the impact of the restrictions imposed on Belarusian subscribers.
Update:
Currently, SMS services may still be unreliable even after Russian operators have removed the block for roaming subscribers.
