5G development declaration was signed between Austria and Belarus in participation of A1

On November 12, a joint declaration was signed in Vienna to strengthen cooperation in the field of communications, ICT and 5G technology development between Austria and Belarus.

The document provides for the assistance of Austria to use existing tools and other forms of collaboration in the field of information and communication technologies to accelerate the development of broadband and digital technologies, including 5G, as well as providing advice to Belarus in developing a regulatory framework for a competitive and favorable investment environment.

«It is pleasant to note that the process of developing a roadmap for the deployment of the 5G network in Belarus does not stand still, and that the proposals put forward by us have become the subject of study by representatives of the Belarusian government. We welcome the decision made by the Belarusian regulator on close cooperation with the Austrian side on the development of a competitive environment in the field of ICT, in particular the introduction of the 5G communication standard in Belarus. Today, Austria is among the leaders in Europe in the timeliness of the auction for the sale of frequencies for 5G, the volume of frequencies and the involvement of telecom operators. This experience would undoubtedly be useful to the Belarusian side», – said Alejandro Plater, Chairman of SBT, the sole Shareholder of Unitary Enterprise A1.

Today, A1 Belarus is developing the architecture of the 5G network, and the initial number of base stations that can be used for effective coverage has been determined. Already in 2018, A1 has applied for allocation of also in Belarus available spectrum being globally standardized for 5G under commercial terms equal for all investors.

«A1 Telekom Austria Group holding, of which our company is a part, has repeatedly stated its readiness to join in the implementation of this project - including by providing it with the necessary investment support. And these plans remain unchanged to this day: A1 Telekom Austria Group is sincerely interested in the early arrival of 5G in Belarus and is ready to offer the knowledge, experience and opportunities at its disposal for the successful implementation of this advanced communication standard», – said Helmut Duhs, CEO A1 Belarus.
