Seven winners of eco contest Solar Energy for Green Schools decided

Eco contest Solar Energy for Green Schools summarized it’s results. 7 Green schools are selected, one in every oblast and one in Minsk and these are the spots where A1 will install solar panels transforming solar energy into electric. The contest has been held by A1 in partnership with Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus and UN Development Program in Belarus among institutions of general secondary education and extended education for children and youth.

 

About thirty applications have been submitted for participation in the project Solar Energy for Green Schools. Membership was granted only to institutions certified as a Green School. Contenders were supposed to present their experience in realization of ecologic and ecosocial programs, activities and projects, share their long-term plans in the said area, give examples of engaging teachers and students in tackling topical environmental issues.

Results were summarized by the jury that consisted of representatives of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus, UNDP, Republican Centre for ecology and local history and A1. As a result of the scoring collected by the contenders there were seven winners – schools identified: one in every oblast and one in Minsk.

 

Maximum scoring as a result of the contest Solar Energy for Green Schools was achieved by Kobrin rayon centre for ecology, tourism and local history from Brest oblast. Other regions have also demonstrated great results. The list of winners is extended by:

  • Vitebsk oblast – Secondary school #16 in Orscha;
  • Gomel oblast – Utevskaya secondary school of Dobrushsky rayon;
  • Grodno oblast – Smorgon Gymnasium;
  • Minsk oblast – Borisov Centre of Ecology and Tourism;
  • Mogilev oblast – Secondary school #3 of Osipovichy;
  • Minsk – Republican Rehabilitation Centre for Handicapped Children.

 

A1 will secure installation of a set of special equipment for conversion of solar energy into electric for every institution that has won the contest for demonstration of the results to schoolers.

 

The contest Solar Energy for Green Schools is not the first A1 initiative in the area of renewable energy drawing attention to efficiency of implementation of this kind of solutions. Since 2016 A1 operates a solar park in Bragin rayon of Gomel oblast made of 85 thousand solar panels funded by the company.
