A New Year present from A1 and Onliner: well-known newsreaders and actors read folk tales for kids

On the eve of Christmas and new year holidays A1 together with Onliner launched a new project named Padkazki. Once a week folk tales collected by folklore researchers during ethnographic trips to different corners of Belarus will be uploaded to a special webpage. Famous newsreaders and actors asounded them specifically for this project.

Uniqueness of the folk heritage and sonority of Belarusian language is created by the voices of Zinaida Bondarenko, Foma Voronetsky, Lyudmila Timofeyeva, Alexander Domoratsky and Maria Zakharevich. The audio fairytales asounded by them are fantastic stories that have been passed down through the generations across Minsk, Grodno and Brest oblasts and other regions. They have been recorded by experts of centre of Belarusian culture, language and literature research under Yakub Kolos Linguistic Institute of the Belarusian National Scientific Academy.

“A1 sees it’s mission in increase of the Belarusians' awareness of the national heritage, i.e. it’s language, traditions, culture and art. Even today long timers residing in rural areas tell the stories that they had taken away from their grandparents to their grandchildren. These stories are bridging different times and generations, reflect wisdom and humor of our ancestors but are passed on only by word of mouth. Thanks to our festive project many kids and adults will be able to enjoy them for the first time”, - noted Nikolay Bredelev, head of A1 PR.

The Songs of the Wolf, a fairytale asounded by honored artist of Belarus Zinaida Bondarenko is already uploaded. This is a fairytale recorded by Elena Boganeva and Tamara Varfolomeyeva in 2006 in Mogilno of Uzdensky rayon in Minsk oblast. It was told by Lidiya Tsibulskaya who had turned 79 at that time. Her narration style has gained the status of Belarusian non-material historic and cultural value.

“We are very happy this year in our joint projects together with A1 we have focused on Belarusian culture and identity. We take efforts to go beyond the horizons of the journalism and create integrated projects therefore it was of paramount interest for us to get in touch with fairytales recorded by famous Belarusian experts in culture narrated by rural residents. This is not just an entertainment content but precious historic records belonging to the Belarusian folk heritage”, - emphasized Nikolai Kozlovich, chief editor of Onliner.

Padkazki will be uploaded every Friday till Christmas. Audio records were created by Radio B-A. Music of the Belarusian band Stary Olsa was used for asounding of the fairytales. Illustrations were done by Olga Nesnova.
