Luch and A1 released a limited series of wristwatch dedicated to 100th anniversary of UNOVIS
Luch together with A1 presented a limited edition of wristwatch within it’s collection Must Art in support of the project #UNOVIS100. In 2020 the said series is dedicated to 100th anniversary of the well-known creative association UNOVIS established in Vitebsk at the initiative of Kazimir Malevich in 1920. Release of the thematic watch was announced in March 2020 following the contest among Belarusian designers organized by Minsk Watch Factory and Pesochnitsa Design studio.

UNOVIS watch is designed by GRAFIT studio. Limited series is represented by three models performed in suprematic style. Two of them were selected by Minsk Watch Factory as a result of an own contest. The third one in white, red and black UNOVIS colors was selected by A1 initiative that are corporate colors of the company too. Each of three models is put on sale in a limited volume, i.e. 250 pieces of each model.

“UNOVIS limited edition is a continuation of our collection Must Art aimed at popularization of contemporary Belarusian artists, designers, modern Belarusian art. The winners of our annual watch design contest this year is GRAFIT studio in Brest. The guys invented a vibrant, unique concept that with the help of the professional team of Minsk Watch Factory turned into a world class product with a piece of global creative history! We will continue to support young creative Belarusian talents and plan to announce terms and conditions of watch design contest 2021 before the end of 2021”, - art director Ivan Kravchenya announced the plans of the factory.
The face and the hands of the limited edition watch designed for the anniversary of UNOVIS form a composition of geometric forms of different sizes. One can easily recognize branded colors and shapes that differentiated the works of the outstanding artists of the 20th century: Kazimir Malevich, Lazar Lisitsky, Nikolai Suyetin, Lazar Khidekel, David Yakerson and other representatives of creative association UNOVIS from Vitebsk who presented a new artistic style, i.e. suprematism. Because the hands designed in a special shape are continually in motion, the overall composition on the face also changes and repeats only once a day.
“As a company that sees it’s mission in support of the national cultural heritage we aim to capture the importance of cultural processes that took place in Vitebsk 100 years ago. One of such reminders is a limited edition watches dedicated to 100th anniversary of UNOVIS association. Creation of this edition is a beautiful way to emphasize continued validity and relevance of suprematic ideas for global art and remind Belarusians of the role of our countrymen in development of this artistic style”, - commented Nikolai Bredelev, head of A1 PR.
Presentation of the limited edition took place at Museum of the History of Vitebsk Folk Art School, i.e. iconic for representatives of the association educational institution associated with the names of it’s most prominent representatives. Under support of A1 in 2020 the museum hosted a number of events within the framework of the project #UNOVIS100 dedicated to the anniversary. All three models of the limited edition are donated by Minsk Watch Factory to museum and will become a part of it’s permanent exposition.

UNOVIS watch became available for sale on 1 October and can be purchased in any store of Luch chain, specialized sections of the department stores as well as Luch branded online store. The price of each model is BYN 249. More details about the limited edition are here.
