Eco Hype. Green Season: 13,500 Trees in Exchange for Old Gadgets

Eco Hype. Green Season, A1's spring eco initiative, has come to an end. In 5 weeks, A1 stores throughout the country received over 13,500 unused gadgets for safe recycling. As promised, A1 planted more than 13,500 new trees, one tree for each collected device.

From 10 March to 13 April, as part of the Eco Hype. Green Season initiative, Belarusians were invited to bring their old mobile phones, tablets, smartwatches, e-books, and fitness bands to A1 stores. For each device, participants were given special codes to take part in an exciting giveaway with five iPhones 16 in the prize pool.

The initiative was held throughout Belarus. Participants from Minsk, Gomel, and Brest have shown the most engagement, while the biggest number of gadgets was collected in Minsk. The overall number of participants exceeded 2,000 people. The giveaway results are available at re.a1.by.

All collected devices will be sent for safe recycling. And to make its eco-friendly efforts even more impactful, A1 team planted one tree for each collected gadget. The company planted the total of more than 13,500 trees on 3 hectares of reforestation land near Akinchitsy village in Stolbtsy District.

This is not the first eco project under A1's belt. In the autumn of 2024, A1 team planted over 5,000 trees in Kalinkovichy District to reforest the local area after a destructive summer storm.

The importance of safe disposal of electronic devices is hard to overestimate. When ending up on landfills, gadgets release toxic substances that contaminate soil and water. Correct disposal gives materials, including plastic and metals, a second life. Since 2021, A1 has collected over 30,000 unused devices, making a significant contribution into reducing electronic waste. Part of A1's ESG strategy, the unused device collection program is running throughout the year. This is a great effort to help A1 customers adapt eco habits and protect the environment.
