How to Avoid Phone Scammers: A1 Guide

ESG

A1 continues its efforts in enhancing digital literacy. As part of its nationwide information campaign #Take5Seconds designed to raise awareness of cyberfraud and #ionline project, A1 held a master class on cyber security for senior people at a social services center in the Central District of Minsk.

In addition to learning about common fraud schemes, such as vishing and phishing, the participants were told how to recognize scam calls and why telling text message codes to strangers is never a good idea. On top of that, A1 team shared simple, yet effective digital hygiene tips, from setting up security settings in messengers to creating strong passwords. All useful resources and tips on how to avoid scammers are available on the A1 website.

By taking interactive tests on common fraud schemes, the participants had a chance to cement their theoretical knowledge and realize the importance of taking a couple of seconds to think before sending money or sharing sensitive information. Each attendee got a #Take5Seconds leaflet with useful tips for online security and a master class completion certificate.

The #ionline project is a joint effort by A1, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). For over 4 years now, the project has been helping the seniors and people with disabilities to navigate the digital world. With support of several thousand volunteers from all over Belarus, the project's educational materials (including special guides, tips, and leaflets explaining online security in layman's terms) have been distributed across dozens of social protection institutions and reached a wider audience.

Master classes, like the one held in Minsk, make a crucial part of this educational process. It's a great way to help senior people come to grips with new technologies, boost their confidence online, and provide working tools against digital threats. By continuing to invest in its #ionline project, A1 strives to make online environment user-friendly and safe for people of all ages and technical competence.
